How to Make Pancakes from Scratch

How to Make Pancakes from Scratch

from scratch pancakesPancakes are so delicious on a sunny morning, with birds singing outside your window, money raining from the sky and a new day waiting to be experienced, but how do you make pancakes?

You could buy the frozen pancakes from your local grocery store, but why? You can make better tasting and healthier pancakes from scratch. And it costs less money! Making pancakes from scratch really isn't that hard to do.

Ingredients needed for making pancakes from scratch:

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons of butter, melted
  • 2-1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt

Cooking instructions:

  1. Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt together, breaking up any stuck-together bits.
  2. In another bowl, mix the milk together with the egg and then add to flour mixture, stirring until smooth and lump-free. Stir in in melted butter.
  3. Cook on a medium-hot, nonstick griddle or wide, flat pan, using about 1/4 cup of batter for each pancake (or more if you want bigger pancakes!).
  4. Cook until you see a number of bubbles coming through the top of the pancakes and flip to lightly brown each side evenly.

The timing for flipping pancakes takes a little trial-and-error as each pan and stovetop are different, but it's better to flip a little early than to wait and incinerate your pancakes like a spent charcoal briquette. Pancakes are SO GOOD that this would be a tragedy. This recipe for serves 4 (or 2 hungry ultra breakfast lovers supreme).

Optional: If you prefer sweeter pancakes, you may add some sugar to the batter before cooking. A tablespoon is usually enough to give them a lightly sweet taste. Also, for a nice country flavor, a quick splash of vanilla extract can be mixed in.

I hope you enjoy your mouth-watering pancakes from scratch. There are so many ways to make pancakes... stay tuned for more great recipes (pancakes banana pancakes) and breakfast ideas that will please your tastebuds and save money!

  1. While I love pancakes I adore waffles even more. Like the recipe. I always had this idea of opening a restaurant, naming it Waffles n Wine and basically serving just that. Although pancakes would work as well. Any thoughts?
